Holidays at the Del

The iconic San Diego tradition is a must-visit this holiday season, the hotel has been transformed thanks to EPIC Entertainment. Between the lights strung atop the famous Victorian, and the “All That Jazz” lightshow, the magic is truly at the Del this Holiday Season. Let’s explore the family friendly offerings – first things first, I always recommend visiting this spot during the week, as the property can get very busy during the weekend evenings!

  • Skating by the Sea: The most iconic ice rink in San Diego, skating by the sea is real ice (hard to find these days!) right along Coronado beach. You’ll skate along with views of the Del and the sunset behind you. Perfect for families exploring ice skating, or experienced skaters, the $40 fee includes skate rentals and 90 minutes of skate time.

Pro Tip: add in a reservation at the Frostbite lounge to enjoy watching the kids skate, have a relaxing spot for skate breaks and enjoy a drink or two!

  • All That Jazz Light Show: Reimagined this year with all new music, this complimentary light show has gone above and beyond this year thanks to the development by Epic Entertainment. The light show happens every thirty minutes, from 5pm on and it’s over ten minutes long! The show is located along the pine trees located at the front of the hotel. This year, they’ve also added a bar and lounge outdoors perfect for viewing the light show spectacular.

Pro Tip: grab pizza at ENO and picnic out for the light show!

  • Gingerbread House Decorating: This will definitely be a new tradition for us, it was the easiest and most fun gingerbread house decorating we’ve done yet! Easy, because the Del provides prebuild gingerbread houses, so no tears over walls that won’t stay up and houses that fall apart. Fun, because the room is all set up with Christmas music playing and copious amounts of decorating supplies!
  • Beachside Igloos: The best of the best in terms of experiences you can opt to do at the Del. The one of a kind Beachside Igloos we’re also brought to life by Epic Entertainment, and are truly magical. Cozy up by the fire, enjoy the beach view while staying warm under the igloo! Reservations for the igloos include a fee of $250-$400, depending on the day and do also have a food & beverage minimum on top of the reservation fee.

If you’re planning to do it all in one day, arrive early afternoon and kick off your day with Gingerbread House decorating, and work your way towards the light show! Parking can be tricky, so give yourself extra time to roll around the neighborhoods to find a spot.
