Family Favorites in Old Town

The historic heart of San Diego is also your one stop-shop for a day full of family fun – starting with lunch at one of the over a dozen Mexican restaurants and then wander your crew down San Diego Ave to explore shops and fun activities for everyone.

Restaurants

With so many options, it’s hard to pick a favorite when it comes to Old Town’s restaurants. Each one has their own spin on the classics, and of course you have to try all of the margaritas!

  • Casa de Freds – an all time favorite for us, this place is family and pet friendly with a robust kids menu to keep even the pickiest eaters happy.
  • Café Cayote – absolutely nothing compares to these fresh tortillas!
  • Casa Guadalajara – a go to when we have friends and family visiting, with Bazaar del Mundo right next door to help the wait time go by fast.

Playing Around

While you’re waiting for your candles, and have your sweet treats in tow – make sure to end your afternoon hanging out at Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.  In the center of Old Town, you can find everything from a shady spot to lay out a blanket to an old covered wagon to play in!

Old Town is such a staple in San Diego – we’ve loved going to its restaurants for years, but finding out how kid friendly the area is was so exciting, can’t wait to spend more time here! What are your favorite family spots in Old Town?
