I love a good party theme, and with Lacey & Mackenzie turning two, I felt like this was likely my last chance to have complete control over their birthday party theme. I HAD to find a way to sneak Tacos (and Tequila) in, so I started reading “Dragons Love Tacos” to the girls a few weeks before their party. Before I knew it, it’s like THEY wanted a taco-themed birthday party. The power of persuasion, ladies and gents.
Decorations:
I start randomly late-night Etsy shopping as soon as I have a party theme in mind. I always start with Etsy to find the must-have extra cute items that you can’t (and don’t want to) get cheap so that I can figure out what budget I have left for the rest of the décor.
Some of my favorite Décor Etsy finds:

I also check Etsy first for outfits, and they never disappoint!
The rest of our décor was Amazon and Oriental Trading – filler stuff that really brought the party together!
Oriental Trading was so perfect for the good bags, especially. I stuffed them with:

Food & Drink
We used Del Mar Taco Company to cater the party – it was so nice to not worry about cooking for adults & kids. Oscar was amazing, and he was quick to reply to any e-mails and questions. Punctual, nice to work with, and most importantly set up a delicious and beautiful Taco Bar. What more could you ask for?

For dessert, I went a little overboard (as per usual), and we had an amazing setup of cookies, cupcakes AND a birthday cake from Treat Confectionary. I sent her inspiration photos from my Pinterest board and she WENT with it.

I wasn’t the only one impressed by her creations. My father-in-law was in town for the party and he kindly went to pick the desserts up. The first thing he said to be when he got back with them was how amazing they looked and how he wanted to think of some reason to use her again when he was back in town next time. (As if I needed another reason to justify more desserts!)

For drinks, we stocked up on Mexican beers – gotta stay with the theme! May have had some sneaky Tequila shots in the kitchen, too…
Activities
We got so lucky when we found Pachis Art Studio. We were taking their Toddler Art Play classes when I overheard the owner, Juliana, talking about their hosted events. I had no idea they did birthday parties and private events – this was a game-changer!
I had been to a few birthday parties for this age group and was a little discouraged when it came to finding an engaging activity for Lacey and Mackenzie’s bash. I needn’t have worried, because Pachis blew me away. They asked me my theme and RAN with it. The end result? A full-on sensory taco bar for toddlers, complete with shaving cream “guacamole” and cardboard dip.

In addition to the creative activities courtesy of Pachis, the kids were able to hop around a toddler bouncy house, and play with some fun musical instruments my husband and I had both come across on different trips to Mexico earlier in the year. With that and the pool, and of course, pinata blow-ups, we were all set!
This was such a fun birthday theme, especially at the age where parents still come to the birthday party. It’s hard to find a theme that both kids and parents can enjoy! At least ‘til next year, when I’m sure we’ll all be in princess dresses and tea parties. (Wait, you can put whiskey in tea, right? Asking for a friend.)

Drop a comment below and let me know your favorite kid birthday party theme – I’ve gotta start the Pinterest board for next year!
